The Quantron Design Award2023 from the German company has been granted to the Master in Transportation Design at the IAAD Istituto d’Arte Applicata e Design in Turin.
At the Q-Days 2023, the largest event by Quantron AG that gathered over 500 visitors from 17 nations in Augsburg, the Master in Transportation Design – Automotive & Interaction Design by IAAD was honoured with the Quantron Design Award 2023.
Quantron AG, the German company specialising in producing zero-emission, electric, and hydrogen-powered buses and commercial vehicles, wanted to acknowledge the outstanding achievement of the thesis project by the 17 students of the academic year 2022-2023. They were supported by the project leader Dario Olivero, the coordinator of the Master in Transportation Design at IAAD, and Davide Tealdi, the professor of Exterior Design.
Over four months, from October 2022 to February 2023, the students designed two hydrogen-powered vehicles: a bus for the European market, the Quantron Coach Bus, and a truck for the American market, the Quantron Us Class 8 Truck. The main objective of the thesis project was to envision the future of sustainable and zero-emission mobility, emphasizing the significance of design in this context. Specifically, the two developed vehicles were conceived as Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) platforms to ensure long-range transportation. Throughout the development process, they adhered to Quantron’s brand guidelines based on the core values of reliability, energy, and courage. The students worked on both the interiors and exteriors of the vehicles, integrating the green technology “Quantron Inside” and new concepts of Interaction and Experience Design. Cutting-edge methodologies were employed, leveraging creativity, Italian design, and virtual and augmented reality technologies.
For the presentation at the Q-Days 2023, a 1:8 scale model of the Quantron Us Class 8 Truck was produced in collaboration with the Transportation Design studio DORODESIGN in Turin.
