Louis Vuitton Voyages is currently holding an exhibition at National Museum of China, Beijing. With historic exhibits such as suitcase circa 1860, the exhibition lays out the French company’s one-hundred-and-fifty-seven-year history in luxury, travel and fashion. Divided into several areas, the exhibition takes shape in the form of visual art and multi-media installations.
‘The Beginning’, showing in room 1, is a spectacular installation by Zhan Wan. Through showing rocks hurled in explosion and the fate of each piece, it urges the viewers to contemplate on the origin of life. Leading on to room 2 and 3, the evolution of signature luggage and hand bags is on show; over a hundred exhibits including bespoke designs for international celebrities, artists, designers and literates, for the past century; Gaston-Louis Vuitton’s sketches of window display are also on display. Room 4 includes digital and interactive design, showing detail information on the floor screen, activated by stepping on top — a metaphor that each of us ought to begin a journey of one’s own.
