DORODESIGN LIKES: Pop Up Office by OHLAB

Grimy to Glamorous for Spanish Office Space

A grimy concrete basement in Mallorca became a slick, minimalist office space, courtesy of Madrid-based Oliver Hernaiz Architecture Lab.

The concept, by architects Paloma Hernaiz and Jaime Oliver, is an improvised office that is easy to dismantle and doesn’t waste resources, transforming a former electrical storage shop into a welcoming space. The process is intended to be simple and easy to replicate, creating ‘an efficient guerrilla strategy’, the architects say.

They began by demolishing partitions and unused mechanical spaces, and re-painted the floor white. Basic black lacquered USM modular furniture was supplemented by furniture and art from the client’s own collection.

The result mixes an industrial, un-finished aesthetic with blinding white floors and understated black shelving that puts the art and furnishings on full display.
