Probably best known for his neon light sculptures and skate decks emblazoned with witty, hip-hop-inspired statements, Patrick Martinez has been a busy man lately. In addition to unveiling a window installation at Factory 413 on Fairfax, he has also once again transitioned into the realm of film. His latest short piece, entitled “LA Sign Exchange,” is a self-proclaimed dialogue with the streets of the iconic California city during nightfall. Scored to an old-school jazz soundtrack, the film focuses on lights, the skyline, cars and (of course) neon signs both in windows of shops and (of course) neon signs both in windows of shops and of Martinez’s own creation.
