Lanzavecchia + Wai is a creative collaboration between Francesca Lanzavecchia and Hunn Wai. To them, being designers means being researchers, engineers, craftsmen and story-tellers all at the same time. I chose from their portfolio the Spaziale Series and the LightMate Hugging Lights both shown at Visualising Transformation, the parallel event of Artissima, but the first without shapes and the second with the lights turned off. Too bad. When design meets art it must be easily recognizable so we decide to post it in the right way.
Spaziale Series are a family of domestic creatures that will live with you and your possessions. By breaking out of the rigid mechanical boxes that inhabit in our spaces and store our lives today, they react to what and how much you put in them, openings that behave like mouths and even allow you to hide in them. LightMates are soft anthropomorphic pillows and warming lamps. This awfully attractive creature heats, lights and provides company.Their different sizes answer to everyone’s need of heat; a mate to hug or a huge companion you can lay on.
