DORODESIGN LIKES: Pixelated Designs

While pixelated can be a dirty word in the field of photography, in design we welcome it. This collection is just a bit (ha!) of all the fun pixelated design out there. Here are over 15 of our favorite pixelated designs:

Pixel-1-Zuzunaga-Rug

Let’s start out with Cristian Zuzunaga who might as well be the king of all things pixelated. We’ve featured his to-die-for Pixel Couch before but check out his Digit rug collection for nanimarquina.

Pixel-1-Zuzunaga-Cushion

You might also like Zuzunaga’s Fire cushion collection he did for Kvadrat that are in the designer’s trademark pixel pattern.

Pixel-2-Samal-Handle

How cool is this Pixel handle from Dzmitry Samal? While not currently in production, one can hope that will change fast.

Pixel-3-Samal-Eyewear

You might remember Samal’s name from when we featured his pixelated eyewear.

Pixel-4-Kundalini-Lamp

The puzzle piece-like shape of the Kundalini Pixel Wall Lamp looks great by itself or in a fun configuration of several on the wall.

Pixel-5-Chiu-Chair

Made up of 1/2″ x 1/2″ cubes that are laminated together like bricks, the Pixel Chair by the extremely talented Vivian Chiu is just as stunning as her Inception Chair that we featured before.

Pixel-6-Plixels-Cubes

Plixel by Umlaute Designbureau are sets of brightly colored plastic pixel storage cubes that can be arranged in any manner you wish on your walls. As they say, it’s flexible wall storage with an attitude.

Pixel-7-Amirko-ChangeIt-Wall

From Russian designer Amirko comes Change it!. It’s a giant wall of triangles that turn and each side of the triangle is a different color, either black, white, or a rainbow shade. Anytime the mood hits, you can change your wall up – all black, all white, a combo/design of the two, or perhaps all bright colors.

Pixel-8-Guillaume-Delvigne
Photos by Ilvio Gallo

This Dpi lighting series from Guillaume Delvigne comes in 3 versions – 72dpi, 144dpi, or 300dpi. Based on the pixel or Dpi (i.e. “dots per inch”) in computer speak, the texture of the lights is based on the various screen resolutions.

Pixel-9-Do-Lo-Rez-Arad

The Ron Arad-designed Do-Lo-Rez Collection, composed of a sofa for Moroso and a rug for nanimarquina, can by used separately or together to create unlimited possibilities of fun. The collection is based on the concept of a pixel and is available in three-color variations: reds, blues, and greys.

Pixel-10-Icon-Watch

I loved this Icon Watch that we featured a few years ago by & Design so much so that I bought one!

Pixel-11-Missoni-Lisbona

From the Italian company Missoni Home comes the Lisbona digitally-inspired throw.

Pixel-12-frog-queen

The facade of Frog Queen (Prisma Engineering Headquarters) in Austria was designed by SPLITTERWERK and looks like one enormous pixelated box.

Pixel-13-8-bit-fashion

Inspired by pixels, Anrealage’s 2011 collection designed by Kunihiko Morinaga, is full of 8-bit graphic fun.

Pixel-14-8-bit-drawers

Designed by Gilli Kuchik of Bakery Design, the 8 Bit Drawers is a storage unit made up of small drawers and cubbies. Together, the collection of colored drawer fronts form a pixelated image.

Pixel-16-Trash-Can

Last but not least is the Pixel Trash Can, complete with instructions on how to build your own.

And with that, this post is “in the can.”
